I was cleaning out my garage recently when I came across a bunch of old fastpitch softball equipment of mine. I had played in a league every summer from the time I was seven years old until the time I went away to college. Even though it has been many years since I last picked up my old glove and bat, just seeing those things again reminded me of how much I missed the game. Since I'm still in pretty good shape, I decided to check out some adult leagues in my city.
Fortunately, the game is as popular as ever, which made it easy for me to join a team. With that detail out of the way, the next thing I needed to do before taking the field was buy some new fastpitch softball equipment to replace my old stuff. I didn't know how good I would be after all these years and I didn't know how long I'd stick with my new team. So I didn't want to spend several hundred dollars on brand-new fastpitch softball equipment before getting a feel for the situation. But I still needed to buy at least the basics because I couldn't very well show up for practice empty-handed.
I went down to my local sporting goods store to check out the latest fastpitch softball equipment and was pretty impressed with what I saw. There are bats made from special composite materials for extra power and responsiveness. There are gloves made from the softest leather to cut down on the break-in time. And there are spikes designed for maximum support and comfort. But in order to get this great fastpitch softball equipment, I would have to spend way more than my budget would allow. Even the mid-range fastpitch softball equipment was more expensive than I imagined, so I ended up not buying anything that day.
I didn't want to give up that easily, so I got online and started surfing some sporting goods sites that specialize in fastpitch softball equipment. There was no shortage of sites for me to choose from, and they offered the very same products that I saw at my local sporting goods store. The only difference was in the prices. The websites were selling fastpitch softball equipment for significantly less than the retail price of the goods, which meant I would be able to get a decent bat, glove, and spikes for much cheaper than I originally thought.
I've yet to play my first game after all these years off, but I have a feeling that I'm going to do just fine. Even if I don't do well, I can at least say that I tried again.
